QLD Young adults spent more time with online friends than those in real life

On average, young Queenslanders spend more than 16 hours online every week. And it’s social networking that has allure – 43 per cent of Queensland’s 18 to 29-year-olds spend more than an hour a day on social networking sites.

A significant number are heavier users – 15 per cent of young adults spend more than two hours each day on social networks such as Facebook.

The Optus Internet Survey quizzed 1028 young adults nationally. It found they spent more time with online friends than those in real life, and the share of virtual-only friends was rising.
