Mobile Broadband Special Offers Best Deals and Buying Tips

Mobile Broadband is a rapidly emerging portable broadband option that encompasses a wide range of electronic devices. Once considered too expensive for your average broadband subscriber, Mobile Broadband pricing has dropped considerably over the past several years and is now fast becoming the most popular and convenient type of broadband on the market today.

Searching for a Mobile Broadband deal or special offer can save you a considerable amount of money, although there are some pitfalls to be aware of, so make sure you’re aware of the ‘hidden terms and conditions’ prior to subscribing to a Mobile Broadband product.

What’s the difference between Wireless Broadband and mobile Broadband?
Wireless Broadband is frequently refered to as Mobile Broadband as it’s essentially the same product. However, there is one primary aspect of Wireless broadband Internet that sets it apart for Mobile Broadband. If you can’t use broadband while you’re moving then it’s not mobile broadband is it? Mobile Broadband Peripherals such as USB Modems, Wifi Modems, Wireless Network Gateways etc… are the key element in defining Wireless or Mobile Broadband categories. A mobile phone or a laptop that uses either uses a USB Modem or has a device   which allows a subscriber to use the Internet on the go would be defined as ‘Mobile Broadband’. On the other hand – A device such as a Wireless Network Gateway that plugs into a power socket (has not battery back up) which allows a subscriber to use a portable laptop in a limited coverage area (E.G. Home) is defined as Wireless Internet as the device is restricted by the power point (GPO -general purpose outlet) that it requires. In other words if your broadband connection needs a power point to work, it aint Mobile Broadband!

Which Mobile Broadband Provider has the Mobile Broadband Best Deals $$?
It’s not for me to say which Mobile Broadband provider has the best deals or service and reception for that matter. What I can do is present the options and relative information to you so that you’re able to make an informed choice. From Prepaid Mobile Broadband to iPad 3G Plans, Wireless Broadband and Mobile Broadband Plans, there are essentially four big Mobile Broadband players that frequent this site. Namely Telstra BigPond with their Next G products, Optus ‘yes’ 3g Wireless, Vodafone and Virgin Mobile – All of which usually have some type of deal happening at any given time.

Telstra BigPond Mobile Broadband
Typically provide FREE network gateway on 24 month contract and multiple policy discounts for bundling with Home Phone, Mobile Phone or a FOXTEL from Telstra service. up to a $20 discount can be obtained for bundling Bigpond Mobile Broadband.

Optus Mobile Broadband
On occasions Optus include a FREE USB Modem on 12 month Mobile Broadband Plans, or take out a 24 month contract and receive a FREE Samsung NC10 Netbook.

Virgin Mobile Broadband
Like other Providers Virgin Mobile offer FREE peripherals such as a USB Modem on a 12 month contract, however to entice customers they also sometimes include FREE Data allowance for an additional 1 to 3 months.

Vodafone Mobile Broadband
Vodafone include FREE USB Modems, additional FREE Data and FREE warranty on USB Modems of up to 24 months.

Mobile Broadband Special Offers $$
What is a special offer? That’s a good question if i don’t say so myself. I often hear and see all the jive surrounding special offers and think to myself that it’s all just clever marketing and that on some occasions there’s nothing really special about it at all. I think it’s safe to say that if you want to cash in on a special offer (or limited offer), it requires some research first. I mean how do you know if it’s a special offer to begin with? You need to evaluate everything on offer and try and perceive what your status will be in 12 to 18 months time, especially if you take out a 24 month plan. Will the market change, will you require more or less data? Will you still be residing in the same Mobile Broadband coverage area? Don’t make a hasty decision on Mobile Broadband – Shop around.

Mobile Broadband Bundles and Multiple Policy Discounts
Search and compare what’s on offer, sometimes multiple policy discounts can work, other times they don’t appear to have any real value, after all, do you really require all those services? What’s your budget? Add up all you’re current monthly telecommunication bills and do the sums. Furthermore, check out the minimum total costs involved over the course of your contract as that may bring your budget into perspective a little further. Don’t get me wrong, bundling Mobile Broadband or using amultiple policy discount can add real value, but just be aware of all the costs.

    Hi,

We live in Burpengary QLD and currently have Optus fusion (internet/phone) for around $100.00 /month 20GB unlimited locals stds and mobile. We are moving next month staying in the same area 3kms away. I have found out that Optus does not service the street I am moving to not even wireless! I know someone in the next street who has optus adsl!!!How can this be? I rang telstra and found out they will not be able to provide me with adsl either only wireless. I am used to very fast internet! Any suggestions on what I can do to to have something that is not going to be too slowwwww? We are buying and this house is only 5 years old!! I think we will not be moving again for a long time…you would think that moving into an new house we would have the latest technology available to us but it doesn’t seem the case. Any suggestions???

    Hi,
We will be going on a driving holiday later in the year through NSW and I want to take my laptop to get emails, etc.
We will be travelling through places like Dubbo, Bourke, Broken Hill, Coonabaraban, Cobar, etc. Mainly in the north west area of NSW.
I don’t want to get into a 12 or 24 month contract for it as I will only be using it for 1 month. What is the best for this type of purpose?
    Thanks
